After both working as chefs for many years in hotels and restaurants in London, we returned to South Africa in 2003 and bought a small country hotel which we ran for 10 years. But the bright lights beckoned and Somerset West was the ideal balance between village life and the buzz of a big city…so in January 2013 we made the big move and bought Southeys Family Bistro (which was then Manuka Restaurant) with the dream of owning a truly family friendly restaurant. We made renovations, installed a jungle gym, revised the old menu and so our dream began. We are still constantly working to create the perfect family venue, with plans for an indoor kids playground and an adjoining summer / winter seating area to be constructed before the rains begin next year (winter 2015). We are constantly adapting our menu to find the perfect balance for our varied clientele.
